Operation Amy Winehouse Drop
It’s no surprise that UK trouble-case Amy Winehouse has dropped out of Coachella this year in light of the singer’s potpourri of legal and personal issues. Facing difficulties obtaining a visa, Winehouse is forced back to black–or back to the UK or quite possibly a Dr. No-style Carribbean island where she will dwell until Sean Connery tracks her down ala James Bond. Ok, not likely. Not to disappoint the Coachella crowd, newbie Mama M.I.A. is confirmed to take the singer’s Saturday slot. Continue reading

The Kills Announce US Spring Tour (Hopefully Their Gear Won’t Be Stolen This Time)
By Diana B. Goode Even if it means dishing out a little extra cash, hire people who are dependable. Hopefully that’s what the London-based duo the Kills learned from their visit to America in September 2008 when their bus driver … Continue reading

Likely Suspects at Coachella 2009: The Smiths
Although I would journey hundreds of miles to see the newly reunited Blur, I do not think they are big enough to headline Coachella on Saturday. Nor do I think the lineup as it stands is sufficient enough to draw a massive festival crowd. The Killers? Please. For those of us (me) who will not likely attend all three dates, Friday is the obvious choice with Paul McCartney topping the bill and the organizers behind Coachella must know this. This is why I cannot accept the Saturday lineup as is.
Weighing all the rumors, there is one that I keep revisiting: the curious liklihood of the Smiths reuniting. Continue reading

Glasvegas vs. White Lies: The Battle For The Top
According to Creation Records kingpin Alan McGee, Scottish indie rockers Glasvegas could very well be the “biggest band in the world.” Not surprisingly, there are many things wrong with this statement. For starters, I don’t think there will ever be a band to top the Beatles in terms of worldwide glorification and notoriety. It’s even a tall order to name the band the biggest that ever came out of Scotland. What about Primal Scream or the Jesus and Mary Chain? Continue reading

Coachella’s 2009 Line-up: Rumors That Will Tear You Apart
When I sift through Coachella rumors, I oftentimes feel like a frustrated James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause, resisting the urge to shout:
“You’re tearing me apart! You say one thing, he says another, and everybody changes back again!”
Very little tempts me to take a chance on Coachella and journey to Indio for excruciating temperatures and overpriced beverages; however, when I heard that Britpop darlings Blur would be performing, my heart skipped a beat. Continue reading
