With all due respect, I wanted to strangle some fans of the Japanese Motors last night at the Echo where we were celebrating the eight year anniversary of Club Underground. Even in the dimly lit venue, it was obvious to tell the club-goers apart from the band fans. The band fans moved in like a herd, a team of sun kissed hippie wannabees touting a “gimme gimme” attitude. In this particular situation, my theory tested correct: the darker the hair color, the keener one’s music knowledge (mind, I was rubbed the wrong way; blonds are usually a-ok). Continue reading

Los Angeles Radio Station Indie 103.1 Leaves the Airwaves, LA Indie Fans Shed a Tear, More Elite Indie Fans Do Not Notice

Los Angeles listeners tuning in today to Indie 103.1 are in for a big surprise: the station no longer exists on the airwaves. With little forewarning and an extremely vague explanation, the station announced that it was forced “to play the corporate radio game” and feature mainstream anthems that did not represent the Indie 103.1 vision. Feeling they had little option (and low ratings apparently), the station decided to push the ejector seat button. Continue reading
